Summary

Schoolers collects only the data necessary to provide our tutoring platform. We do not sell your personal data. Children's data is handled with extra care in compliance with applicable laws.

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account, book a session, or contact support. This includes:

  • Account information: Full name, email address, password (hashed), and role (parent, student, tutor).
  • Profile information: For tutors bio, subjects, years of experience, availability, and avatar. For parents children's names and grade levels.
  • Payment information: Transaction records, wallet balances, and payout details. Card data is processed by Flutterwave and never stored on our servers.
  • Session data: Booking history, session logs, attendance records, and assignment submissions.
  • Communications: Messages sent through our direct messaging and in-session chat features.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, device type, browser, and IP address collected automatically.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and provide access to the platform.
  • Process bookings, payments, and payouts.
  • Facilitate live tutoring sessions and classroom features.
  • Send transactional notifications (session reminders, payment confirmations, booking updates).
  • Respond to support requests and resolve disputes.
  • Improve platform features, fix bugs, and analyse usage patterns.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. Sharing your information

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Between users: Tutor profiles (name, bio, subjects, ratings) are visible to parents. Session details are shared between the relevant tutor and parent/student.
  • Payment processors: Flutterwave processes payments on our behalf. Their privacy policy governs how they handle your payment data.
  • Service providers: We use trusted third-party services for hosting, email delivery, and analytics. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specifically:

  • Account data is retained until you request deletion.
  • Session and booking records are retained for 7 years for financial and legal compliance.
  • Chat messages are retained for 12 months after the session date.
  • Usage logs are retained for 90 days.

When you delete your account, we anonymise or delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

5. Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Authentication: Keep you logged in securely across sessions.
  • Preferences: Remember your theme (light/dark) and display settings.
  • Analytics: Understand how users navigate the platform to improve the experience.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling authentication cookies will prevent you from staying logged in.

6. Children's privacy

Schoolers serves students including children under 13. We take children's privacy seriously:

  • Children's accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian.
  • We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
  • Parents can review, update, or request deletion of their child's data at any time by contacting us.
  • Children's data is never used for advertising or shared with third parties beyond what is necessary to deliver the tutoring service.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to certain types of processing, including profiling.
  • Withdrawal of consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice on the platform. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Your continued use of Schoolers after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
